PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Manager, Data Center Services position is responsible for overseeing the daily operational duties as it relates to the converged infrastructure and other data center facilities.  The primary responsibility of this role, while required to have deep technical knowledge, is Leadership, for approximately 8 positions. The DCS Manager will be the point of contact for Data Center ownership, resource management, metrics, and all other interfacing services at CP related to the maintenance of the data center. This role will oversee staffs that are 2nd and 3rd level support for converged infratructure, OS and storage in a 24x7 capacity in addition to managing, scheduling, and prioritizing provisioning duties. With a focus on delivery and sustainment, this role will serve as an escalation point for resolving issues in alignment with SLAs, establishing and maintaining communication with internal IT Services, Projects and Application Sustainment Teams to keep them updated with status of their requests, and proactively escalate issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes.  Continuous improvement is a key component to the success of this role.  The DCS Manager will possess the necessary skills to sustain and develop the infrastructure and staff that support the data center operations and services.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Oversees computer operations, ensuring schedules and performance requirements are met and system resources are used effectively;
  • Coordinates strategies, communications, and joint initiatives for multiple and distributed facilities;
  • Collaborates with business and IT managers who define, deliver, and manage required service levels;
  • Provides supervision and direction to staff responsible for the support of the computer operations & facilities;
  • Oversee resourcing needs within the department including development of staff skills within the team;
  • Lead a team of knowledgeable Infrastructure support specialists who can respond effectively and efficiently to support requests i.e. New VM builds, changes to existing builds, and converged infrastructure support;
  • First point of escalation for the department should technical staff not be able to resolve issues and proactively escalate Incidents, Changes and Issues to the Sr. Director;
  • Evaluate and recommend technologies, tools and techniques that can make our environment better able to meet the demands of 7X24 service;
  • Improve, maintain and enforce data center operations processes ensuring integration with existing CP processes;
  • Identify and maintain KPIs and or metrics that support and are in alignment with IS strategic goals.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • University degree in Engineering, or Computer Science preferred or equivalent experience;
  • Holds 15 years of experience in working in an IT management role with knowledge of how IT functional workgroups work together cohesively;
  • Significant experience with Cloud Computing platforms (e.g. Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure);
  • Demonstrable knowledge of one or more container and orchestration technologies (Docker, Elastic, Kubernetes, etc);
  • Evaluates emerging computing architectures and technologies and recommends desirable computing platforms, and/or hardware and software upgrades for internal platforms relevant for the business;
  • Experience in Operations of a cloud datacenter infrastructure, datacenter administration, servers, storage, middleware, non-application software, monitoring, and operations that support the applications and business processes as required;
  • Significant experience in IT Infrastructure project delivery as well as practical knowledge of application delivery issues and challenges;
  • Manage relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure they cost-effectively meet the needs, deliver service level agreements and expected levels of quality and meet information security standards;
  • Build automation systems to reduce operational tasks; improve automatic issue identification and routing, and predict platform performance in accordance to SLAs based on overall platform health and progress;
  • Must have understanding of O/S (Linux, Windows), familiarity with databases (Sybase, SQL, Oracle) and access administration (AD groups, access types of privileged vs generic user);
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention;
  • Experience with Software Development Life Cycle, and project methodologies such as Agile and Waterfall;
  • Familiarity with physical and virtual infrastructure;
  • Appreciate and understand how to deal with different cultural values and sensitivities; tact and diplomacy;
  • Demonstrated capability in leading staff, mentoring and coaching;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; influencing ability at executive and working levels;
  • Ability to identify problems/opportunities and determine root cause rather than fixing symptoms of the problem.
