PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Signals & Communication (S&C) Systems, the S&C Operations Specialist plays a pivotal role in managing the recruitment efforts for both the Signals & Communication Construction team and the Signal Maintainer Apprentice Program. This position works in partnership with senior leadership to identify staffing needs across multiple seniority districts and collaborates closely with the Technical Training team to plan and coordinate onboarding processes and apprenticeship training schedules. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Collaborates with S&C Management to determine hiring demand and advise Talent Acquisition recruitment strategies across Canadian operational units
- Evaluates and chooses eligible candidates to participate in informational sessions and interviews, aiding in the decision-making process for new hires
- Facilitates S&C Refresher training in partnership with the technical training team
- Creates and distributes the "Red Book Rule of the Day" for monthly circulation
- Reviews, processes, and verify the accuracy of S&C position bulletins before distribution
- Designs training materials and develops online courses evaluations using the LMS platform
- Conducts field evaluations of apprentices to assess progress and performance
- Develop and support certification and qualification processes for S&C staff across Canada, US, and Mexico
- Promote and ensure adherence to CPKC policies, safety practices, and procedures across all team members and direct reports, fostering a culture of safety and accountability
- Evaluate and monitor planned apprenticeship budget, validate material readiness, and confirm execution strategies to ensure seamless project delivery and alignment with organizational objectives
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or general equivalency
- Valid driver’s license
- 7 – 10 years of combined Signal Construction and Maintenance experience
- Strong understanding of CPKC’s Red Book Requirements, required practices and standard plans
- Valid Canadian passport; ability to travel up to 50% across the United States/Canada network without restrictions
- Must be able to obtain and maintain “D” Card qualification
- Proficiency with SAP, Rail Tasker and Microsoft Office applications (Excel and Word)
- Strong communication skills (effectively convey clear and concise instructions or directions, both over the telephone and via radio)

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Medical and Drug Testing
This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
