POSITION SUMMARY:

This role is a rare opportunity to join the railway industry and directly support the leaders of CPKC’s Government Affairs and Communications groups.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  •         Diligently and accurately manages lobbying registrations and disclosure reports within the applicable deadlines to ensure compliance with lobbying regulatory requirements in Canada and the United States
  •        Manages the planning and scheduling of meetings with elected officials, senior government officials, external organizations and internal colleagues, including coordination of attendance and preparation and distribution of supportive material
  •          Supports the organization of CPKC’s Ottawa office, including welcoming visitors, coordinating work with other internal departments, and ordering supplies as needed
  •          Responsible for booking and managing travel reservations and business expenses
  •          Develops and manages a contacts database of elected and non-elected senior government officials
  •          Provides administrative support for managing incoming and outgoing executive correspondence
  •          Assists in the improvement of internal processes and documentation management to support efficiency and consistency
  •          Develops, organizes, and drives special projects and other duties, as needed, to support successful outcomes for CPKC’s Government Affairs and Communications priorities and objectives

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  •        Recent graduate holding a university degree or equivalent professional administrative work experience
  •        Outstanding organizational, planning, and process skills, and a strong ability to multi-task
  •        Strong written and verbal communication skills
  •        Excellent people and inter-personal skills
  •        Desire to learn and grow
  •        Strong demonstrable digital skills, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  •        Ensures quality control for their own work product
  •        Adaptable and responds resourcefully to new demands and challenges
  •        Schedules and balances work to recognize changes in priorities, timelines and internal/external concerns
  •        Keen to take initiative and act proactively to anticipate needs
  •        Ability to respond to urgent situations outside of normal business hours, as needed
  •        Bilingualism (English & French) is an asset

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
