PURPOSE OF POSITION

 As a Project Development Specialist you will provide early phase project support for all CPKC growth opportunities through the evaluation of all Technical, Commercial, Operational, Financial, Legal and Risk considerations. You will then be responsible for compiling this input from key stakeholders into a Project Charter, ensuring the project is progressed in a manner that maximizes overall return to CP and identifies all major strategic considerations associated with investment projects. This role forms a key foundation for CPKC growth projects by defining project requirements, baselining project expectations and establishing the benchmark for measuring final opportunity performance.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Lead the strategic evaluation of growth projects
  • Create Project Charters that are a key input to the funding decision process
  • Provide insight into strategic impacts and project risks and make recommendations on the path forward
  • Develop recommended strategies and initiatives as a result of market studies for various stakeholder groups
  • Undertake high-level and complex economic, financial, cost and/or business analysis to support departmental strategies and corporate initiatives
  • Assist with the preparation of briefs on key market developments to support net new builds, expansions to extend CPKC’s network reach
  • Stay abreast on industry and commodity trends
  • Liaise with all key stakeholder groups to develop wholesome, factual project charters with consideration for current customers and commodities, operations and service design, as well as technical, legal and property impacts
  • Provide expertise to support large contract analysis and review for capital projects

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Understand key drivers relating to revenues and expenses
  • Able to independently navigate ambiguity and successfully create results
  • Ability to translate business needs into logistic solutions
  • Knowledge and application of financial investment returns, operating incomes
  • Consistent delivery of high-quality, polished work products
  • Strong verbal communication and influence skills
  • Building and fostering stakeholder relationships though teamwork and collaboration
  • Project Management experience is not required but is considered an asset

Management Conductor Program:
