PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Take on a unique and impactful role in protecting Canada’s vital rail infrastructure. As part of this specialized law enforcement team, you’ll respond to emergencies, investigate crimes, enforce laws, and lead risk reduction and public safety programs that safeguard communities and critical transportation networks. The position can be based out of detachment locations across Canada

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Promote public safety by enforcing federal, provincial, and municipal laws, educating the community, and collaborating with other law enforcement agencies during investigations and joint operations
  • Prevent and detect crime through proactive patrols, investigations, and the effective management of workload, including responding to emergency incidents and general calls for service
  • Conduct criminal and collision investigations, prepare comprehensive reports and prosecution files, and deliver professional court testimony as required.
  • Protect railway assets, operations, and personnel, ensuring the safety and security of critical infrastructure
  • Provide assistance and support to victims of crime while managing responsibilities such as escorting prisoners and maintaining public trust
  • Maintain strong communication skills, a solid understanding of relevant legislation, and adherence to policies and procedures to ensure effective enforcement and service delivery
  • Be flexible and prepared for travel on assignment, 'on-call' duty, and rotating schedules, including working nights, weekends, and holidays as part of operational requirements
  • Plan, manage, and prioritize workload effectively while conducting patrols, collaborating with other agencies, and staying prepared for training opportunities or emerging assignments

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma with a preference for post-secondary education and community involvement
  • Must be willing to temporarily relocate for a police recruit training program and complete and pass all of the training. This will be with a partner police agency and will be 22 – 26 weeks in duration
  • Must meet physical and professional standards, including passing a fitness test (PARE, POPAT, or PREP), psychological exam, polygraph exam, and meeting CPKC Police Firearms and Use of Force Standards
  • Active First Aid, CPR and AED qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • This position is permanently located at the location identified in the application process

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

 

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety critical/safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.
