PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

You will be a member of a team responsible for inspecting, maintaining, fixing, and repairing various industrial or commercial machinery and equipment, identifying malfunctions, diagnosing issues, ordering necessary parts, and performing repairs to ensure optimal operational efficiency and safety standards within a workplace

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Maintaining mechanical repair and maintenance of roadway equipment in a safe and efficient manner
• Repair, inspect and test equipment such as production tie and rail machines, spikers, spike pullers, ballast regulators, speed swings, loaders and skid steers and backhoes, tie cranes, tie inserters, etc.
• Using a variety of manual, electric, and hydraulic tools, as well as welders and cutting torches, to perform/verify maintenance and repairs
• Investigate and locate equipment problems and take corrective action minimizing the impact on crew production
• Plan work and co-ordinate in a team environment
• Prepare and submit equipment maintenance records, time sheets etc.
• 30-40% travel requirement with travel accommodation and meal allowance provided

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.
• Formal Technical education for Diesel or Heavy-Duty Mechanics or at least 3 years' experience in Heavy Duty or Diesel mechanics is an asset
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Valid driver’s license required: Commercial Driver’s License would be considered an asset
• Experience with troubleshooting and repair of hydraulic systems (electric over hydraulic and air over hydraulic)
• Proficient knowledge of welding, operation, and maintenance of work and roadway equipment
• Proficient in communication (ability to provide clear and concise instructions/directions)
• An emphasis on safety is essential for all employees. This is a high-risk environment - working around heavy moving equipment

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.
