PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Assistant Culvert/Ditching Supervisor is responsible for completing scheduled, periodic and emergency culvert inspections and providing feedback based on observed field conditions. They provide oversight of both CPKC and contractor maintenance employees, as well as facilitating action plans based on detailed inspection results with the Railroad Bridge Engineer and Senior Manager of Structures and Field Operations.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Complete culvert inspections in accordance with Federal Railroad Administration standards CPKC management plan
- Audits culvert maintenance/renewal work for compliance with CPKC structures red book and guidelines
- Make recommendations to the Manager of Culverts/Ditching in regards to inspection details
- Complete inspections and document information into inspection data base as directed by the Railroad Bridge Engineer
- Maintains relationships with engineering employees on their geographic territories
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or general equivalency
- Valid driver’s license
- 1 year in a leadership role preferably in railroad or construction
- Basic Computer Skills (excel, word, power point) for inspection documentation
- Basic knowledge in the use of laser levels or transits for shooting grades and elevations
- Use of basic hand tools
- Applicant must be able to work in all types of conditions: rain, snow, ice, mud, steep uneven slopes, brushy/overgrown terrain, insects, reptiles and animals may be encountered

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Medical and Drug Testing
This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company or regulated drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
