PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Join our high-performing Signals & Communications (S&C) team and help build and maintain railway signal systems that keep our trains running safely and efficiently. As an S&C Labourer, you’ll receive comprehensive, hands-on training over a 4-month period, equipping you with valuable industry skills. Upon completion, you’ll be eligible to apply for advanced positions such as Signal Helper or Maintainer Apprentice, offering a clear pathway for career growth. The selected candidate must be willing and able to relocate anywhere within District 3, spanning from Manitoba to Ontario
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Perform trenching, cable distribution, housing installation, pole line work, and the assembly and wiring of signal equipment
- Install ground systems and electrical connections to rail, ensuring system reliability and functionality
- Inspect, repair, or replace damaged S&C equipment as needed
- Work closely with Track Renewal groups to protect and maintain S&C equipment during projects
- Conduct moderate to heavy physical labor on assigned sections of track, including tasks such as shoveling and climbing poles for pole line repairs
- Walk and work on uneven terrain to ensure proper installation and maintenance of equipment
- Report and document the color and status of signals during electrical connections
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or general equivalency; Electronics or electrical training and/or practical experience considered an asset
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Valid driver’s license; Class 5 preferred
- Available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays in all weather conditions
- A strong emphasis is placed on adhering to safety protocols and maintaining vigilance to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your team
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to provide clear and concise information to team members and stakeholders

Medical and Drug Testing
This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.
