Experienced Police Constable
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The CPKC Police Service delivers police services to the CPKC network. Duties include emergency response, special events policing, risk reduction operations, investigation and enforcement of criminal acts, crime prevention and public safety programs. This position is open for a successful candidate in either Medicine Hat or Lethbridge, AB. The annual base salary is 111K increasing to 114K in 2025.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Ensure public safety through enforcement, education, crime prevention, and detection
- Enforce federal, provincial, and municipal laws, statutes, and by-laws and Conduct criminal and collision investigations; respond to emergencies
- Protect railway assets, operations, and personnel by collaborating with other law enforcement agencies
- Maintain knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures
- Plan, manage, and prioritize workload; conduct patrols
- Travel as needed for assignments, incidents, and training within Alberta
- Possess strong communication skills and assist crime victim and prepare reports, prosecution files, and provide court testimony
- Manage and escort prisoners
- Capable of working shifts, weekends, and holidays
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be a Canadian citizen with a high school diploma or GED (post-secondary education and community involvement are assets)
- Must have completed and passed full basic recruit training with a recognized police service in Canada
- Must be a FIRST class police constable in good standing with a recognized Canadian federal, provincial, municipal, or First Nations police service. Retired and recent law enforcement experience will be considered, provided they have experience and the authority to enforce the Criminal Code of Canada
- Knowledge of the Canadian Criminal Justice System and enforcement under Provincial Statutes
- Basic computer skills and a valid driver’s license for the province of employment are required
- Must successfully complete and pass a fitness test (PARE, POPAT, or PREP) and meet CPPS Firearms and Use of Force Standards
- Must be qualified in First Aid, CPR, and AED, and pass a psychological evaluation
- Candidates must be able to complete and pass a polygraph exam and have a clean discipline record without McNeil decisions

Management Conductor Program:
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
