PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As the Specialist Special Control Zone (SCZ) you will be responsible for the planning, and scheduling of SCZ protection and work block planning, maximizing productivity and minimizing delay to train movements. During the execution of the SCZ the incumbent is

responsible to ensure the safe and efficient movement of trains and the safe and effective protection of installation and maintenance personnel and machinery associated with the zone. When not actively engaged in the planning or execution of SCZ work, you will participate in the design, testing, and implementation of changes or additions to S&C systems.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Liaise with the Calgary Operation Centre, Engineering Services and Product Design representatives to balance competing demands to ensure delivery to S&C production schedule and compliance to published train service guarantee;

Plan each Special Control Zone and its execution prior to commencement. Constructing of a step by step work and task plan, structuring tests to be completed protection to be afforded and the handling of train movements and sequencing of cutover

stages; 

Report SCZ performance to schedule and the development of recommendations for improvement in delivery for future work zones in both zone planning and execution; 

Prepare detailed test plans for S&C Projects;

Participate in the design, testing, and implementation of changes or additions to S&C systems, and ensure that required safety and technical specifications are adhered to;Provide on-call support for S&C Protection issues or concerns;

Participate in the commissioning of new signal systems, changes to existing signal systems, scheduled typically at night or on weekends;

Deliver training programs as required, ensuring effectiveness of content and selected training strategies.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Business or Computer Science would be desirable;

Must possess a minimum of 5 years’ experience with CP’s dispatch systems as an RTC, coupled with a minimum of two years’ experience within S&C;

Must possess experience in traffic planning, work block management and the effective balancing of conflicting priorities in a time sensitive and demanding environment;

Must possess and demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving skills;

Must demonstrate strong communication and effective negotiating skills;

Must possess a valid RTC certificate of qualification in CROR;

Bilingual written and oral skills would be considered an asset.
