PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Become part of CPKC as a Hi-Rail Bridge Inspection Vehicle (Snooper Truck) Driver and Operator and help keep our railway network safe, reliable, and moving. Based out of Kansas City, MO, you’ll operate the Snooper Truck to support critical bridge inspections across the system.

 

This travel-based role is ideal for someone who enjoys being on the road and working in different locations. While it is not home daily, CPKC provides hotel accommodations and meals while you’re away during the work week. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead daily bridge inspection vehicle operations, including schedules, routes, resources, and inspection support
  • Support scheduled, periodic, and emergency railroad bridge inspections and bridge maintenance in compliance with CPKC, FRA, and Transport Canada requirements
  • Safely operate and direct on-track and off-track use of the bridge inspection vehicle and related support equipment
  • Request and secure required track authorities for on-track bridge inspection activities
  • Coordinate track access and inspection activities with dispatch, engineering, maintenance, and field teams
  • Conduct field safety briefings, enforce safe work practices, and complete monthly safety testing and evaluations for CPKC and contractor employees
  • Review inspection data, photos, and reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate team members to maintain safety, compliance, and high performance

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or general equivalency
  • Hold a valid Class A or Class B CDL with a minimum of 30 months of full-time driving experience within the last 36 months.
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record, including no more than two moving violations in the past three years.
  • Possess experience operating on-track equipment and securing required track protection.
  • Railroad bridge experience is preferred, with four or more years strongly desired.
  • Reside within 60 miles of Kansas City, MO, and be available for on-call emergency response.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

 

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
