PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Supervisor Structures is responsible for the execution of Structures and Facilities maintenance and construction work across Eastern Canada. The successful candidate will manage Facilities crews across the territory and prioritize and assign work to those crews. This individual will have leadership accountability for inputs and outputs of safety, service, productivity and financial metrics.
 
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Accountable for the management of Structures and Facilities maintenance and construction projects as assigned by the Senior Manager Structures
  • Directly manages and accountable for all work executed as assigned by Senior Manager Structures
  • Oversee and supervise facilities crews across Eastern Canada
  • Ensure safety and compliance for CPKC and crews by implementation of safety practices and efficiency testing for internal crews and contractors
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, third parties and other CPKC departments to ensure execution of bridge work
  • Coordinate the material orders for construction projects ensuring adequate lead time based on planned schedules
  • Plan work schedules for CPKC Facilities crews and forecast plan/demand for supplemental contract crews based on capital work load
  • Plan Structures and Facilities maintenance and construction work to ensure the quantity and duration of primary blocks meet operations requirements and coordinated with Track production work
  • Complete weekly and multi-year schedules for Structures and Facilities work
     

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 

  • High School diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Post-Secondary education with Engineering focus is preferred
  • Qualification as a bridge inspector in accordance with CP policy an asset
  • Previous railway experience, CROR rules qualified
  • Minimum 5 year experience with bridge inspection, maintenance or construction
  • Must be able to work at heights on bridges and with Bridge inspection vehicle (BIV) to perform inspections, supervise maintenance work and perform maintenance work as required
  • Ability to drill down, understand root cause and resolve complex issues
  • Demonstrated capability to apply relevant knowledge and technical skills to monitor adherence to CP policies and standards as well regulatory requirements
  • Solid understanding of structural theory, bridge construction practices and inspection requirements and techniques
  • Demonstrated ability of project management skills including development and management of project schedules and budgets
  • Ability to simultaneously manage priorities and ensure delivery of key performance metrics during emergency and non-emergency operations
  • Strong understanding of fall protection safety and practices
  • Understanding of consequence leadership practices
  • Ability to influence peers at all levels, cross functional co-managers and Executive leadership team

This includes candidates participating in the Trainee Program who will also be required to pass a drug test during the training process before receiving final qualification for the position.

Management Conductor Program:
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
