PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Equipment Operators are responsible for efficiently managing and operating a variety of equipment, such as forklifts and knuckle booms, to support tasks related to railway systems, track materials, bridges, and essential components like ties within the plant. Their role is critical in ensuring safe, accurate, and timely operations, leveraging technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to meeting deadlines. Working with moderate supervision, they deliver consistent, high-quality performance while maintaining a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and exceptional service delivery.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Safely loads, unloads, and transports materials within the plant, ensuring high-quality handling and zero damage
  • Executes tasks such as receiving, transferring materials to the separator, operating booms, transitioning materials from the stacker to the drying yard, relocating tram lines, and loading rail cars
  • Conducts preventive maintenance on material handling equipment and promptly informs the maintenance team of any identified issues.
  • Employees must always remain focused and be willing to work in a team environment
  • Maintains accurate inventory by reporting warehouse activity to the Plant Manager, ensuring proper material accounting in SAP
  • Embodies CPKC’s Vision, Values, and Culture by fostering positive interactions with coworkers, business partners, customers, and collaborators

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or general equivalency
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Minimum one (1) year of relevant experience, or proficient in one or more fields of railroad operations
  • Strong communication skills (provide clear and concise instructions/directions including over telephone and radio)

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

 

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company or regulated drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
