PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Co-op program at Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) will give you an opportunity to gain large public-company experience with a culture committed to success and development. You will collaborate on projects that require detailed analytical review, and progress real-time business and process improvements. The job requires an aptitude for data mining, analytics, problem solving and a drive for collaboration.

 

Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) is currently considering a Fall Co-op Student pursuing their Commerce Degree to join our Network Services Finance (NSC) Accounting team in Winnipeg!

 

The Co-op student accepted into our program will gain actionable hands-on experience that will become the building blocks to support their future career. Your training and skillsets will be enhanced through departmental rotations. These mini transitions will allow you to work alongside various accounting professionals, gain knowledge of our business, and see first hand the accounting cycle of accounts receivable, accounts payable, month end reporting and billing.
 

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Preparing invoices in a timely and efficient manner;
  • Trace customer payments to invoices;
  • Review and audit of customer master data;
  • Review and audit of vendor master data;
  • Review, identify and close out accounts;
  • Account reconciliation support for month-end;
  • Being a contributing member in process improvement projects;
  • Ad hoc projects as required by management.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Students enrolled in University, majoring in Accounting or Finance is an asset;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including but not limited to Excel and Visio;
  • Ability to work independantly, and as part of a team;
  • Strong communication and organizational skills;
  • Manage expectations and prioritize work-based requirements;
  • Exceptional analytical and problem solving;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform critical self-reviews;
  • Continuous improvement mindset;
  • Ability to use Best Practice to achieve departmental goals.

 

​​​​​​DESIRED SKILLS

  • Knowledge and application of statistics;
  • Ability to handle and process large amounts of data using SQL;
  • Coding experience, especially with Python, R, Matlab;
  • Data visualization experience with either dashboard software (tableau, power bi, qliksense) or common visualization packages (seaborn, ggplot2, plotly/dash).

 

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS

  • Machine Learning AI and other methods of predictive learning (i.e. gradient boosted trees, deep neural networks, support vector machines);
  • Computer Vision experience;
  • Cloud computing experience.

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CP. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
