PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

This position is responsible for the timely and accurate processing and payment of Accounts Payable (AP) for Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway (CPKCR). This position is responsible for driving efficiency through continuous improvement initiatives, leading projects and promoting process automation. Leadership scope includes overseeing a team that includes both non-union and union employees that processes payments to suppliers accurately and in a timely fashion and investigates and resolves issues to facilitate payment.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Drive efficiency by leading continuous improvement initiatives, leading projects and promoting process automation
  • Ensure processes and controls are understood by all and that everyone is executing to them. Ensure adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and Internal Control Framework
  • Lead AP projects and identify, investigate and resolve issues
  • Ensure appropriate documentation of all processes in the AP department (including training materials, audit documents, process documents and work instructions)
  • Train and coach staff, oversee their work, answer questions, ensure they understand their role and responsibilities as well as company policies
  • Collaborate with approving departments to resolve invoice processing issues, ensuring timely payments and efficient handling of vendor and internal inquiries. Proactively implement solutions to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and control in AP processes while minimizing errors and streamlining future transactions
  • Manage unionized and non-unionized staff including record and monitor attendance, plan and schedule vacations, enforce consequence leadership as required
  • Ensure completion of monthly account reconciliations
  • Oversee document management, coordinate with external scanning provider to ensure invoice documents are sent out for scanning every week and are scanned in a timely fashion by the provider. Ensure that documents are accessible as required by internal audit and other auditors
  • Evaluate and present staffing recommendations to Network Service Center (NSC) management where either increased or reduced staffing is required to perform the required duties

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, business, or other related field of study
  • 5+ years leadership or supervisory experience in a fast-paced AP team with excellent knowledge of standard methodologies for AP
  • Experience with SAP
  • Experience leading projects and driving enhancements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Driving for process compliance while maintaining a high level of employee and supplier satisfaction

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
