PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The successful candidate will be a leader/service owner in a team responsible for the support, implementation, monitoring, and configuration of CP’s Local Area (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), Software Define Wide Area Networks (SDWAN) and Internet Services.  

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide engineering, deployment and operational support for LAN, WAN, SDWAN, Trackside and Internet Services;
  • Provide engineering, deployment and operational support of Wired and Wireless network infrastructure;
  • Provide oversight of vendor provided Network Services and Software defined WAN (SDWAN) services;
  • Travel to various CP locations and perform installation and cabling support;
  • Provide technical expertise on Network Security and Policy Manager (Aruba Clearpass/ Cisco ISE);
  • Perform Asset Management of Network assets;
  • Provide 7X24 operational on-call support on rotation for CP’s LAN, WAN, Trackside and Internet environments;
  • Respond to service LAN/WAN/Internet service outages with timely corrective actions as required and take overall responsibility for service restoration of LAN/WAN and network related Severity 1/major business impacting outages;
  • Consult with Network Design team,  and Project teams as required in order to resolve issues in a timely manner;
  • Guide/engage selected telecommunications vendors, as requried to ensure and/or restore LAN/WAN/Internet services;
  • Develop and maintain a consistent process to ensure timely maintenance of CP’s LAN/WAN/Internet networks;
  • Analyze and evaluate LAN/WAN/Internet service outages for identification of root cause and preventative measures to avoid future occurrence;
  • Collaborate with other internal/external service stakeholders, as required, on service related issues;
  • Support the business by suggesting LAN/WAN/Internet solutions to business problems;
  • Engage with the Network Design team, and Project teams to propose standard service solutions to address business requirements;  Develop operational models, processes, and documentation to manage all aspects of CP’s LAN/WAN/Internet services;
  • Mentor more junior LAN/WAN staff, as required;
  • Assist in the development of proof-of-concept models to demonstrate proposed solution design changes;
  • Lead and/or participate in new service implementations;
  • Develop as-built service documentation and user guides on how the various LAN/WAN/Internet services work & interact.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • University Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field is required;
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience is required;
  • In depth knowledge of the LAN (wireline/wireless),  WAN, SDWAN and Internet services;
  • Proficiency in information management concepts, information delivery architecture with extensive knowledge of LAN/WAN/Internet services;
  • Strong experience with enterprise LAN, WAN, and Internet service implementations, integrating multiple services;
  • Cross functional knowledge of how LAN, WAN, and Internet services interact/relate to VoIP, and Voice Networks infrastructure;
  • Working Knowledge of Aruba Clearpass and Cisco ISE;
  • CISCO certification CCNA or CCNP desired;
  • Strong knowledge and ability to triage services issues and be able to proactively initiate restoration solutions;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to interact with various levels of management;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various levels of management, staff, and customers;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team;
  • Ability to adapt and overcome challenges;
  • Ability to influence and persuade.
