PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

CPKC is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Specialist Fuel Data to support the development and execution of fuel efficiency initiatives across the organization. This role partners closely with Operations, Finance, and Procurement to support fuel usage analysis, cost management, and sustainability objectives aligned with CPKC’s 2030 ESG greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets.

 

The successful candidate will support fuel conservation initiatives through data analysis and reporting, contribute to the evaluation of fuel strategies, and assist with cross-functional projects that drive measurable improvements in fuel usage and environmental performance. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with data, thrives in a fast-paced, operational environment, and is eager to develop expertise in fuel analytics and sustainability-related practices. This position can be based in Calgary or Kansas City.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Daily confirmation and accountability for accuracy of fuel prices in SAP.
  • Work with field personnel to support accurate accounting of all locomotive fuel received and dispensed, in alignment with fuel inventory policies and procedures
  • Monitor fuel inventory data and support reconciliation activities across systems (SAP, Fuel Management System, and third‑party platforms), escalating discrepancies as required
  • Investigate fuel inventory variances through detailed analysis and drilldowns to identify root causes and support resolution
  • Coordinate with third‑party vendors (e.g., Lukay Research & Development Ltd., TCS, Klibra) to support Fuel Management System accuracy and address data or system issues
  • Perform audits and analysis related to fuel consumption, equipment functionality, security controls, and personnel compliance to identify issues and improvement opportunities
  • Support monthly fuel forecasting for storage tanks to assist with planning and uninterrupted fuel supply
  • Prepare, update, and distribute fuel-related standard operating procedures (SOPs), and maintain appropriate access controls for fuel data, equipment, and facilities
  • Work with Fuel Logistics and Sourcing teams to support continuous fuel distribution and assist in addressing GRIR imbalances and pricing issues

 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, supply chain management, computer science, engineering or a related field
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in operations, project management or analytics, including direct stakeholder engagement and process improvement
  • Strong proficiency in data analytics tools and programming languages (Excel, Power BI, Python, SQL or similar)
  • Experience translating complex data into actionable recommendations for diverse audiences
  • Valid passport; unrestricted ability to travel to the U.S. and Canada

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
