PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Quality Assurance (QA) team at CPKC is seeking a Specialist, Quality Assurance – Operations & Automation to support mission-critical railroad operational systems through a combination of deep operational testing and progressive automation capability.

This role is ideal for a QA professional who understands railroad and transportation operations, thrives in complex, domain-heavy environments, and is motivated to evolve from manual, end-to-end operational testing into scalable automation.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Execute end-to-end functional and regression testing across integrated railroad operations systems including Train, Yard, Crew, Intermodal Management Applications, Cross Border applications and Dispatch and Train control applications
  • Validate cross-system workflows spanning dispatch, safety, mobile, and back-office applications
  • Design and execute multi-workflow regression bundles where defects have high potential to propagate across downstream systems
  • Perform requirements traceability, test design, execution, and coverage of functional and operational edge cases, in alignment with STLC policy
  • Act as an operations-focused QA SME through immersive exposure to real-world workflows
  • Collaborate with Operations, Delivery, and Business teams to understand business rules and operational dependencies
  • Regularly communicate with QE leaders and project team on any risks to testing timeline or any roadblocks which might impact the testing and project timelines, and stay aligned with Stage Gate processes
  • Contribute to automating repeatable operations regression suites focused on high-risk workflows
  • Convert selected manual operational test cases into stable automated tests under QE standards
  • Partner with Automation Engineers and QA Leads to identify and prioritize automation candidates
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives including framework optimization and execution efficiency
  • Participate in the use and evolution of AI-enabled QA tools (e.g., test generation, risk analysis, defect intelligence) and contribute to building AI-assisted automation and quality engineering capabilities
  • Use test management and defect tracking tools for execution evidence and reporting

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in Quality Assurance or Testing, preferably in operations-heavy or safety-critical environments
  • Demonstrated experience testing complex, integrated systems
  • Hands-on experience with test design, execution, defect management, and requirements traceability
  • Exposure to automation concepts or tools with interest in advancing automation skills
  • Experience with enterprise or scripted automation tools (e.g., Tosca, UFT, Selenium, Playwright)

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKCKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
