PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Canadian Benefits team is seeking an experienced Benefits Advisor to provide comprehensive benefit program management for all Canadian employees, including unionized employees, retirees, and non‑union populations. This role supports disability benefits, FlexBenefits administration, data integrity, program analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Benefits Advisor serves as a senior subject-matter expert, providing leadership on issue resolution, system functionality, reporting, and vendor integration.
This role will also support strategic benefits initiatives and provide coaching and oversight within the benefits team. It requires demonstrated leadership capabilities and a clear aspiration to move into a people‑leadership role within the next 2–3 years.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Lead the strategic design, delivery, and administration of the Canadian disability benefit programs (Short‑Term Disability, Weekly Indemnity Benefits, Long‑Term Disability), ensuring programs evolve to meet organizational, legislative, and workforce needs
- Oversee the governance and administration of all Canadian employee health benefit plans, ensuring alignment with plan documents, contracts, collective agreements, and organizational objectives
- Lead the resolution of complex benefit issues and grievances, acting as a senior advisor to internal stakeholders and a key liaison with external service providers to mitigate risk and drive accountability
- Drive continuous improvement through the development, revision, and governance of benefit plan documentation, ensuring policies, procedures, and processes remain current and effective
- Compile, analyze, and report on benefit utilization data to identify trends and provide recommendations for strategic initiatives to support executive decision-making
- Provide senior-level oversight of financial dashboards, analytical reporting, and costings to support union bargaining
- Oversee system and technology initiatives to ensure benefit administration platforms, interfaces, and data transfers operate accurately, reliably, and in compliance with program requirements
- Participate in end‑to‑end annual FlexBenefits enrolment cycles including communication, testing, auditing, and issue resolution
- Assess impacts of plan design changes and support the creation of presentations for senior leadership review
- Provide coaching and day-to-day guidance to benefits team members, enabling effective issue resolution, and fostering a culture of excellence in service delivery
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Undergraduate degree in Human Resources or other relevant fields, an asset
- Group Benefits Associate (GBA), Compensation Management Specialist (CMS), Retirement Plans Associate (RPA) and/or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) Designation is preferred
- Minimum 7 years work experience in HR, Canadian Benefits, or related role
- Proficient in SAP, Spinifex and Advanced skill in MS Office – Excel, PowerPoint
- Experience taking strategic business initiatives and drilling down with business stakeholders to document clear, thorough requirements and process documentation
- Solution focused – enjoys the challenge of problem solving
- Ability to communicate issues, risks, results with management and stakeholders
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and a clear aspiration to move into a people‑leadership role within the next 2-3 years

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
