PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

An exciting (paid) opportunity to gain valuable work experience in the dynamic, fast-paced Railway industry! This position runs full time from May 2026 to August 2026 (potential for Fall part-time work in 2026) and will provide you with a project to independently manage, while receiving support from an assigned leader and mentor. Projects are scoped in alignment with your term length, are based mainly in the office, and typically will focus on asset management.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ability to locate, understand, communicate and summarize industry agreements 
  • Create yard schematics from Google Earth across the system using AutoCAD 
  • Asset enrichment template creation and data entry 
  • Assist operations of LiDAR Collection 
  • Hi-Rail with Roadmasters and Inspectors learning day to day Engineering railroad operations 
  • Maybe traveling across theCPKC network (anywhere from Subury, ON to Vancouver, BC) 
  • Possibility of being away from home office for up to two weeks at a time while traveling the network (all costs covered by CPKC) 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Entering 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of studies in a Civil or Mechanical Engineering Program 
  • Valid driver’s license 
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, AutoCAD
  • Must have good organization skills, and be able to work under pressure 
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team 
  • Ability to extended hours with changing work schedule 

 

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
