PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

CPKC is seeking a highly strategic and forward-thinking Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to support our workforce across Canada and the U.S. Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, this role serves as a trusted partner to senior leaders, driving alignment between business priorities and human capital strategies in a complex, fast-paced environment.

This position plays a critical role in elevating human capital practices and service delivery through continuous improvement, data-driven insights, and pragmatic solutions. The successful candidate will proactively identify opportunities to enhance organizational effectiveness, simplify and strengthen human capital processes, and deliver consistent, high-value support to leaders across the employee lifecycle.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Build trusted partnerships with senior business leaders to align human capital strategies with business objectives and drive results
  • Act as a strategic partner and coach, anticipating business needs, influencing outcomes, and delivering practical, value-driven human capital solutions
  • Lead core talent initiatives including workforce planning, organizational design, succession planning, performance management, and leadership development
  • Leverage data and workforce analytics to identify trends, assess risks, and inform strategic decision-making
  • Provide expert human capital guidance, proactively resolving complex employee relations matters and ensuring consistent application of policies and practices
  • Champion change management and foster a high-performance culture that enhances employee experience

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5–10 years of progressive HR experience in a strategic HRBP or equivalent role
  • CPHR or SHRM designation is an asset
  • Proven ability to influence and partner effectively with senior leadership
  • Strong knowledge of labour legislation; familiarity with U.S. and Mexico employment practices is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to apply human capital policies and practices in a pragmatic, business-focused manner
  • Analytical capability with experience using data to drive decisions
  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strategic solutions-oriented mindset with strong adaptability, curiosity, and continuous improvement focus
  • Experience with HRIS systems and advanced Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid Canadian passport with ability to travel to U.S. without restrictions
