PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Specialist Sourcing – Mechanical Locomotive & Car is accountable for the sourcing, procurement, and management of the Mechanical portfolio in accordance with CPKC’s policies and procedures.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Integral part of the Mechanical Procurement team managing a portfolio of approximately $500M in spend ensuring the continuity of supply for all materials, assets, and services for the Mechanical department
- Contribute towards the development and implementation of sourcing plans for a range of goods and services
- Negotiate contracts for goods and/or services required by internal customers
- Develop contract agreements, incorporating results of negotiations and best business practices
- Develop Business Cases providing the business reasons for the recommendation
- Oversee implementation and effective application of agreements for contract term
- Develop Requests for Information, Proposals (RFI, RFP) as required. Analyze bids, information and proposals, develop alternatives, perform value analysis to determine best price/value relationships and make recommendations
- Achieve Cost Savings Initiatives, Capital Budgets, and Continuity of Service
- Protect CPKC’s interest through vendor negotiated and executed agreements and adherence to internal safety and security requirements
- Recommend long and short term sourcing strategies for reducing total ownership costs of goods and services based on economic, financial and market research and analysis of the supply base and demand variables, identifying pricing targets for CPKC, as appropriate, through the use of various benchmarking and analytical tools
- Lead continuous improvement processes with internal customers and external suppliers leading to reduced costs for CPKC
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- University degree (graduate preferred) in a discipline with substantial quantitative content such as supply chain management, economics, business/commerce, or equivalent
- At least 2 – 5 years’ experience in the sourcing and procurement or related field, or strong business knowledge and negotiations experience in the sourcing Mechanical (Locomotive/Car) material and services
- Demonstrated overall business acumen
- Strong analytical skills, strategic thinker, good business case analysis and ability to translate customer technical requirements into sourcing deliverables
- Detail-oriented, self-starter with strong initiative
- Proficiency in all Microsoft applications, with good working knowledge in Excel
- Knowledge in SAP & ARIBA would be a strong asset
- Demonstrated written and oral communications skills
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to work well in cross functional teams and manage several projects at once
- Strong focus on delivering to internal customer requirements

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
