PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
In this position, you will perform railroad bridge design, bridge component design, external plan review, and bridge load rating evaluation. You will ensure that bridge design work is completed in accordance with CPKC standards. This position will be based primarily in Kansas City, Missouri. As a strong front-line leader, you will cultivate a culture of safety, reliability, and excellence while ensuring smooth operations within the structures department and supporting the safe, efficient movement of the railway network. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Review bridge design plans from external consultants to ensure compliance with CPKC standards
- Review bridge permitting, hydraulics and hydrology, and geotechnical details
- Ensure bridge design work is completed in accordance with CPKC standards
- Perform design of railroad bridges and draft using AutoCAD
- Develop underwater bridge inspection reports with substructure plan and profile drawings
- Perform field inspections to validate measurement for bridge component designs
- Maintain and update CPKC bridge and culvert standard drawings and specifications
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (required)
- Primary coursework in structural engineering or construction (preferred)
- Valid driver’s license
- AutoCAD drafting experience
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) licensure (required)
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure (preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with team members
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with proficiency in computer systems and AutoCAD
- Participate in on-call schedule for emergency response, ensuring operational coverage
- Work in confined spaces at times
- Work at elevated heights
- Wear protective equipment (fall protection, personal flotation device, hard hat, hearing protection)

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
