PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Manager for Hydrogen Locomotives leads the end-to-end technical design and integration of hydrogen-powered locomotives. This role oversees mechanical, electrical, software, and human factors engineering, ensuring designs meet safety, regulatory, and performance standards.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead and improve mechanical, electrical, and software design of hydrogen locomotives
  • Ensure all designs meet safety, regulatory, and engineering standards
  • Oversee system integration and ensure reliable performance in operations
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables from team members
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentorship to engineering staff
  • Drive project execution, holding teams and suppliers accountable to timelines
  • Manage product roadmaps and communicate progress to executive stakeholders
  • Support field troubleshooting for complex technical issues
  • Promote continuous improvement of designs, processes, and maintenance practices
  • Leverage data analytics and AI to enhance engineering and operational performance
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Protect innovations through patents and intellectual property strategies
  • Support capital planning and budgeting for hydrogen technology initiatives
  • Foster a high-performance, results-driven engineering culture

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical engineering or related field
  • 5 years' experience managing vehicle development programs from prototype through production within the transportation sector
  • Strong background in project management, including scheduling, planning, and execution
  • Ability to execute projects independently with minimal oversight
  • Proven ability to build and maintain a positive, respectful, high-performance team environment
  • Experience working in operational environments, identifying issues and driving solutions
  • Locomotive Engineer and/or Conductor certification an asset 
  • Hands-on experience in mechanical and electrical systems preferred 
  • Valid driver’s license if required
  • Valid passport with ability to travel to U.S.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
